Hello my fellow medicos. I am farheen khan and I am doing my first year medicine. I study in university of nairobi, Kenya. I just wanted to ask some reference books for anatomy. Which books do guys recommend for anatomy: Gray's anatomy for students or lasts anatomy. Please advice as I am having a really difficult phase studying anatomy. And I end up focusing more on anatomy leaving biochemistry and physiology aside. Please tell me effective ways of studying so that I can balance with all my studies. Also refer to me the best book for histology. And is langmans embyology best for studying embryology or developing human is a better book to refer to. Thank you so much.

Hello Farheen. I would give you suggestions, but remember that this is what worked for me. I hope this will be useful, but do not take it as a standard. What no one tells you is the first 3 subjects are of the utmost importance to understand the more difficult ones easily. Go for Netters Atlas of anatomy for the Images. Any textbook will do. I prefer Grays as a reference. The images are Awesome and the explanation is detailed. If you finish Gray's, you can easily master Surgical anatomy, and anatomy of the Eye and ear. It helps a lot. For Physiology, Use Guyton and Hall or, My favourite, Berne and Levy. The explanation is both detailed and Beautiful. I enjoyed reading Both of them. For Biochemistry, Harper's is the best of what Ive read. You can refer Biochem from Lippincott or Lubart Stryer. Histology. There are many good books. I used Wheater's Functional Histology and Inderbir Singh. Langmans embryology is the best. It even explains the Genetic basis of organogenesis and Signalling pathways in the developing cell. If you understand that, You can master the development of Congenital anomalies and Genetic diseases. In short. Netters Atlas, Grays anatomy Complete edition, Berne and levy, Harper's and Lippincott. Make sure you take the help of a senior or a Professor. It will help you learn a lot faster. Its always good to have a mentor to guide you well.

Anatomy - internet, youtube etc! Physio - guyton as mentioned earlier, but for physio one book is not enough, you need internet and books, histo - the atlas by wojciech pawlina (this book made me king in histo) still using it today tho... anyway my big recomend... is β€”> dont but too many books you find too much online!
