Flap reflection

A periosteal elevator is used to retract the mucoperiosteal flap. The elevator is placed perpendicular to the bone and held in place by pressing firmly against the bone, not by pushing it apically against soft tissue. Notice the vertical releasing incision located at the distal line angle of tooth #9.
