Diagnostic tests for AIDS

The investigations of a suspected case of HIV/AIDS are categorised into 3 groups: tests for establishing HIV infection, tests for defects in immunity, and tests for detection of opportunistic infections and secondary tumours. However, usually initial testing for antibodies is done against HIV by ELISA and confirmation by Western blot or immunofluorescence test.
