The lateral soft-tissue radiograph reveals the “thumb sign” that indicates a swollen epiglottis, suggestive of epiglottitis. The diagnosis was confirmed on subsequent imaging and laryngoscopy. The patient recovered following treatment with dexamethasone and ceftriaxone.
