Cushing's syndrome is an endocrine disorder in which there is excessive secretion of cortisol (hypercortisolism). It can be of following types: 1. Primary Cushing syndrome: Excess ACTH secretion. 2. Adrenal Cushing syndrome: Due to adrenal tumour or hyperplasia. 3. Paraneoplastic Cushing syndrome: e.g. in small cell carcinoma of lung. 4. Iatrogenic Cushing syndrome: Drug induced. Clinically this disease will present as hypertension, truncal obesity, moon facies, buffalo hump, cutaneous striae, osteoporosis, hirsutism, menstrual abnormalities and mental disturbances.
