Dystoxic Delivery

The image shows a newborn with facial lesions due to dystoxic delivery due to a deflected cephalic presentation. In certain circumstances in cephalic presentations, instead of flexing the fetus, which is the physiological mechanism, it tends to deflection, thus producing dystocic deliveries with the fetal head in different degrees of deflection. The different possibilities are determined by the degree of deflection of the fetal head and there may be different types of delivery:face, forehead and bregma.
