Oral Health and Fertility

Did you know that gum & tooth health is super duper important for fertility!? We talk about gut health all the time, but we can’t really take care of our gut health without taking care of our oral health too. Why? Poor oral health influences “systemic” health. In other words it impacts overall health including fertility in a variety of ways. How? Bacteria in the mouth, impacts bacteria in the entire body (through the many blood vessels in the mouth), including the uterine environment, placenta and sperm health. The increase in “bad” bacteria can lead to an immune system response that can impair fertility anywhere from conception to embryo development. In other words poor oral health can: 👉🏻Decrease sperm health 👉🏻Increase time to conception 👉🏻Increase risk of miscarriage 👉🏻Increase risk of pregnancy complications & preterm birth Bad breath and bleeding gums are signs that it’s time to pay more attention to your oral health. Regular dental checkups, brushing, flossing and tongue scraping are an important part of preconception care. Looking for a fertility friendly toothpaste!? It is recommended to avoid fluoride and choose the one with hydroxyapatite. By: https://www.instagram.com/p/CdblQFnP5h7/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
