Urinary bladder hypertrophy due to chronic reflux of urine

Chronic reflux if urine wouldn't lead to hypertrophy of the bladder, however, the same cause that leads to hypertrophy is also capable of causing "reflux" or painful micturition along with incontinence etc. It's benign prostate hyperplasia. The increased size causes a semi or full obstruction of the urethra but the swelling of the lobes of the prostate (lateral upper segment) causes direct pressure on the urinary bladder due to the position of the prostate and this in the long term is what causes the hypertrophy. It's extremely common in males over 60 years old.
