What's involved with becoming a living organ donor?
Living organ donation refers to donation of organs by a living human instead of a deceased. Such donation is mainly involves blood relatives and emotionally attached relations such as in-laws, spouse, and friends. Living donors commonly donate kidneys, liver, lungs and pancreas. Anyone can become an living organ donor regardless of age and gender. Individuals with HIV, actively spreading cancer, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease or infection are ineligible for organ donation. Children younger than 18 require consent from parents or guardians.
