Transitional cell carcinoma- Nephrographic phase CT shows no abnormality in the left kidney collecting system. . . Pyelographic phase CT shows an oval soft tissue mass in the collecting representing a transitional cell carcinoma. . . If we only had the standard nephrographic phase image we would have missed this cancer! That’s why it is so important to do a CT urogram whenever there is hematuria. . . Transitional cell carcinoma is the most common primary malignancy of the urinary tract and may be found along its entire length (renal pelvis to the bladder). The most common presentation is hematuria. The vast majority are seen in the bladder (97%). .
