How successful has occipital nerve stimulation proven to be for patients with chronic headaches?
Several long-term follow up studies have been done on patients with occipital nerve stimulation and positive outcomes have been reported. Around 70% of the patient who have received this treatment claim that there is a significant reduction in pain, although the rate of pain reduction varies from patient to patient. On average the rate of pain reduction is about 50% so those patients who used to mark 10/10 on pain score may mark 5/10 after getting the treatment. Especially patients who have severe headaches in conditions such as occipital neuralgia and cervicogenic headache claim that occipital nerve stimulation has helped reduce their pain significantly. Only about 15% of the people have given fair ratings while 10% have given poor ratings.
