Causes of Esophageal Perforation

Esophageal perforation broadly classifies into spontaneous and iatrogenic causes. Iatrogenic perforation is more common. It may occur while performing diagnostic or therapeutic endoscopy. Spontaneous perforation occurs during Boerhave syndrome. It may also occur while defecation, labor, or weightlifting.
