Blood Supply of Rectum

Blood Supply of Rectum

Blood supply of the rectum is divided according to parts of the rectum i.e., proximal, middle, and distal parts. The superior most part of the rectum is supplied by superior rectal artery. This artery is derived from inferior mesenteric artery. The middle part of the rectum is supplied by middle rectal arteries. These arteries travel through lateral ligaments. These are branches of internal iliac artery. The lower most part of the rectum is supplied by inferior rectal arteries. These are the branches if internal pudendal artery.
