Complications of TORCH Infections in Pregnancy

TORCH is an acronym for infections: T = toxoplasmosis O = others e.g., hepatitis B R = rubella C = cytomegalovirus H = herpes simplex virus These infections can cause range of signs and symptoms in mothers and their babies. TORCH infections affect organogenesis resulting in incorrectly developed organs. Other complications may include jaundice or deafness. In severe cases, miscarriage and stillbirth can occur.
