Sun is the prime source of UV rays that are quite harmful for eyes. Repetitive and long term exposure of eyes to sun rays produces significant eye conditions. Some of them may have irreversible effects. • Cataracts; cloudy and opaque lens leading to blindness • Muscular degeneration; leading to visual disturbances such as farsightedness • Pterygium or surfer’s eye; inflammation of conjunctiva and its growth towards optic center, it spreads to the cornea • Photokeratitis; sunburn of cornea • Pinguecula; abnormal conjunctival growth • Skin cancer of eyelid; presenting with bleeding bump on eyelid, eyelid inflammation, loss of eyelashes • Ageing; UV light produces crow’s feet and wrinkles
