Shingles is a viral infectious disease caused by Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV). It is characterized by painful ‘lacy’ rash on either side of thorax. Shingles occur when VZV reactivates after staying inactive for years in spinal cord. Vaccine is available for shingles that reduces the risk of shingles.
