Low Chagas Disease Diagnostic Indexes The diagnostic index of Chagas disease is low because of the stigma associated with it. The psychosocial reasons become a barrier in correct reporting and indexing of Chagas disease. Reasons which stigmatized Chagas disease include • Association with poverty-stricken populations; globalization and migration has changed the parameters of Chagas disease, still it is observed as a disease that strikes poor populations hence being associated with low socioeconomic class makes reporting and diagnostic indexing of Chagas disease an impossibility. • Fear of being isolate from family and work; Chagas disease is not a contagious disease yet the cause and presentation of this parasitic infection strikes a fear of contagiousness pushing the affected individuals away from work place, family and friend circle. • Loss of job; employers believe in terminating the jobs of employees with Chagas disease as they may be a threat to other employees and their sudden death may prove a burden to the industry therefore employees hide their condition. • Emotional distress; Chagas disease comes with despair, anxiety, fear of sudden death, loss of job and family, and suffering which together puts the individual under immense emotional and mental stress.
