The treatment for hemochromatosis includes doing phlebotomy (removal of blood from the body) on a regular basis as it helps to reduce the patient's iron levels to normal. For individuals who can't undergo phlebotomy, an alternative form of treatment is chelation. Apart from this, patient needs to be advised on certain lifestyle modifications such as avoidance of iron supplements, alcohol, shell fish and raw fish.
