What are the functions of the facial nerve?

Out of the 12 cranial nerves facial nerve is the seventh nerve. It is the derivative of the second pharyngeal arch. It has motor, sensory and supplies glands. The motor supply is to facial expressions, posterior belly of diagastric, stylohyoid, stapediusmuscles. Sensory supply is to area of concha of external ear. It also provides taste to anterior two third of tongue via chorda tympani. Parasympathetic supply is to head and neck glands including: submandibular, sublingual, nasal, palatine and lacrimal glands.
