Which way does the uvula deviate in a X nerve lesion?
Tenth cranial nerve is the vagus nerve. It supplies muscles of mouth and uvula. It controls speech and gag reflex. In case of lesion: loss of gag reflex occurs with hoarseness of voice and cough. Uvula deviates away from the side of lesion. This occurs due to opposite palate muscles pull. It can be visualized by asking the patient to open his mouth and looking for the uvula deviation.
