What are the key features of a social history in memory decline?
The patient with dementia has to be reported to the DVLA (driver and vehicle licensing agency) and family because they can unintentionally harm themselves and someone around them. They cannot also be left alone. So while taking social history a doctor should ask for social set-up, activity, and who they live with. Do they still work or drive. Do they consume alcohol, do they smoke. Is there room upstairs or downstairs? Is there someone or some way of making sure they eat properly? Are the arrangements safe and sustainable? This should be discussed with the patient as well as their family members.
