Nasal Rhinosporidiosis

Rhinosporidiosis is chronic granulomatous parasitic infection caused by Rhinosporidium seeberi. It predominantly affects mucous membrane of nose and nasopharynx but other sites are also involved. Nasal rhinosporidiosis presents with unilateral nasal obstruction or epistaxis. Other symptoms include local pruritus, coryza with sneezing, rhinorrhea, and postnasal discharge (drip) with cough. Patients often report a sensation that a foreign body is present in their nasal canal. It occur in immunocompetent people Cause by rhinosporidium seebri (aquatic prostista) Water Bourne disease Most common in south india On Bx- sporangia are present Rx- excision with cauterization
