Intestinal obstruction- The clinical exam

Intestinal obstruction- The clinical exam

Intestinal obstruction may be dynamic or adynamic. Dynamic obstruction occurs due to a mechanical cause occluding the lumen which may be an adhesion, a tumour, hernia or impacted feces. In these cases, persistalsis occurs to attempt to remove the obstruction. However, eventually if the obstruction persists, the proximal bowel begins to dilate and progressively loses its peristaltic activity later on. Adynamic obstruction, on the other hand, is caused by an absence of persistalsis which may have a metabolic, neurological or myogenic origin. https://slideplayer.com/amp/4560832/
