What are the initial investigations used to diagnose colon cancer?
Colon cancers are majorly responsible cancers for mortality. Any patient who presents with weight loss, abdominal pain, anemia should be investigated to rule out the disease. Investigations required include: 1) Blood workup: CBC, urine r/e, LFTs, serum calcium, clotting factors. 2) Ct-colonography is used to see mass and used when the patient cannot tolerate colonoscopy. 3) Colonoscopy to identify mass and obtain tissue for brushing, biopsy or resection 4) CT abdomen- pelvis to done to look for metastasis and lymph nodes.
