Diagnosis is based on clinical features such as fever, raised white cell count, new infiltrates on chest x-ray and purulent secretions from endotracheal tube. Confirmation of diagnosis can be done with tracheal aspirate, bronchoalveolar lavage and video assisted thoracoscopy.
