CDC guidelines for reporting, testing, and specimen collection for COVID-19 For reporting a PUI (Person under investigation) for COVID-19, immediately contact - Infection Control and Prevention - State health department to prepare a PUI and Case Report Form - CDC’s Emergency Operations Center For testing PUI (Person under investigation) for COVID-19, - Do not delay testing - Perform at state public health laboratory and CDC For specimen collection for COVID-19, - Take upper respiratory specimen (nasopharyngeal [preferred] or oropharyngeal) or lower respiratory tract specimen i.e. sputum in patients with productive cough, or bronchoalveolar lavage in patients on mechanical ventilation
