Esophageal varices(EV)

EV: Varicosities of the branches of the azygous vein which anastomose with tributaries of the portal vein in the lower esophagus, occurring in patients with portal hypertension. EV is the most common cause of massive UGIB. Commonly occurred following of cirrhosis or fulminant hepatitis. Often bleeding is because of rupturing one of the lowering esophageal varicose veins.
