How does Crohn’s disease present?
Crohn’s disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease which is known to involve all gut layers. It is a transmural type while ulcerative colitis another disease of the family involves mucosa only. Crohn’s disease presents as: diarrhea (stools may include blood but not always), abdominal pain, skin tags, fissures and fistulas in anal region, oral ulcers, weight loss, fever, malaise, anorexia and sometimes abdominal mass may also be seen. Risk factors of the disease include: genetic predisposition in patients with family history, smokers and presence of another immune regulatory dysfunction
