Gynecomastia refers to the enlargement of the male breast, resulting from a proliferation of the glandular component of the breast tissue. It may be unilateral or bilateral. Most of the cases of gynecomastia are idiopathic. Other possible causes include cirrhosis, Klinefelter syndrome, teratoma of the testis, and drugs like steroids, cimetidine, and spironolactone, etc. Treatment options include reassurance of the patient and mastectomy with the preservation of nipple and areola.
