Kussmaul's Sign

Kussmaul's Sign

Kussmaul’s sign is a rise in jugular venous pressure on inspiration. It occurs commonly secondary to impaired right ventricular filling due to a dysfunctional right heart. The differential diagnoses of raised JVP on inspiration are: - Right ventricular infarction - Pericardial effusion - Restrictive cardiomyopathy - Constrictive pericarditis - Cardiac tamponade - Pulmonary embolism The attached short video demonstrates the raised JVP.
