Dual-control, breath-to-breath, pressure-limited, time-cycled ventilation that also goes by the name of pressure-regulated volume-control (PRVC) is a newer method of ventilation that uses both the volume control and pressure control type of ventilation. It specializes in delivering a specific tidal volume at minimum effective pressure. This adaptive mode of ventilation uses feedback mechanism on breath to breath basis to help regulate the inspiratory pressure given to the patient in order to achieve the set tidal volume. In other words tidal volume is used as a feedback to help regulate the inspiratory pressure. This mode of ventilation is effective in minimizing the chances of barotrauma and also helps in increasing the comfort of the patient. This can be effectively used in patients with Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
