Tetanus is an infectious disease caused by Clostridium tetani. The condition is commonly acquired from a wound site. Clinically this condition presents with muscular spasms in the form of spastic paralysis or tetany, lockjaw, risus sardonicus and exaggerated reflexes. In severe condition the person may develop opisthotonos also called arching of the back due to muscular spasm (as shown in the picture) and respiratory failure.
