Kuru Disease or Laughing sickness is a rare disease found in Fore people of Papua New Guinea who practiced cannibalism. It is a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) caused as a result of transfer of prions. This disease is characterized by pathologic bursts of laughter, loss of coordination, progressive cerebellar ataxia and ultimately death.
