Compound and Complex Odontoma

Most common odontogenic Tumors which are histologically charactrized by production of mature enamel,dentin,cement and pulp tissue.This well differentiated tooth tissue are slow growing and are not true tumors (they are hamartomas).*Multiple well-formed teeth are called Compound Odontoma.*Nondescript masses of dental tissues are called complex Odontoma.Odontomas usually grow chronologically parallel with the other teeth in the oral cavity.Compound odontomas are more frequent than complex type.Diagnosis :most of compound type accur in anterior maxilla and 70% of complex odontomas are found in molar region of lower jaw.Odontomas have a very well-developed borders on radiographic images.Differential Diagnose: compound odontomas are very easy to distinguish due to their well-formed toothlike appearance.But Complex odontomas may be confused with Cemento-ossifying Fibromas , Cement dysplasia and Osteoms.Therapy: Surgical operation.
