What is stridor and what does it indicate?
Stridor is an abnormal wheezing-like, high-pitched sound which commonly affects children. Stridor, also called extrathoracic airway obstruction or musical breathing, is produced by turbulent airflow usually at the level of trachea, sub-glottis, glottis or supraglottis. It is associated with obstructed airway and blocked larynx. Urgently contact a doctor if the child’s face becomes bluish or they face difficulty in breathing. Stridor indicates blockage of upper respiratory tract due to airway obstruction of larynx blockage.
Condition characterized by prolonged inspiration through an obstructed upper airway. It must be differentiated from wheeze.
