Iris, the structure which imparts color to our eyes, is the anterior most component of the uveal layer of the eye. In its center, the pupil is located which permits light into the eye. The anterior layer is devoid of epithelium and consists of fibroblasts and melanocytes while the posterior layer contains a bilayered pigmented epithelium. Dilator and sphincter muscles of the iris are responsible for controlling the pupillary aperture and thus, the amount of light entering the eye.
