Does Retroverted Uterus Cause Problems?

Does Retroverted Uterus Cause Problems?

The anatomical position of the uterus is anteverted i.e., it is tilted forward at the cervix. Another variant is called the retroverted uterus, it is tilted backward at cervix. It is directed towards the rectum. Majority of women with retroverted uterus experience no symptoms, however, in a small portion of patient, painful intercourse is the dominant complaint. A notion that retroverted uterus can cause difficulty in pregnancy and repeated miscarriages is disproven. A retroverted uterus: - Can be present congenitally - Can be a consequence of adhesions secondary to any pelvic surgery - Occurs as a result of endometriosis or fibroids - Can occur if pregnancy causes extreme stretching of ligaments that hold the uterus in place A number of management options are present in case the retroverted uterus is symptomatic; the treatment plan aims at managing underlying condition e.g., hormone therapy for endometriosis. Other available options are: - Exercise - Pessaries - Surgery Reference: https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/ConditionsAndTreatments/retroverted-uterus Image via https://ivi-fertility.com/blog/pregnant-retroverted-uterus/
