Thyroglossal cyst ..due to patency of thyroglossal duct ..at any point in the course of the thyroglossal track from foramen caecum at base of tongue to the isthmus of the thyroid gland ..can be complicated by recurrent infection, abcess, fistula, malignancy ..presented by swelling in front of the neck, non tender, rounded, moves up and down with deglutition and on protrusion of the tongue ..sistrunk operation is the treatment by horizontal elliptical incision placed over the cyst then excision of cyst, fistula, whole track, body of the hyoid bone and may part of tongue base
