Meckle's diverticulum is the most common type of congenital abnormality characterized by the outpouching of small intestine, present at the time of birth. It occurs in about 2% to 3% of the general population. It is caused by the incomplete obliteration of vitelline duct in the organogenetic period of embryonic life. The duct normally undergoes progressive narrowing and completely disappears at the 7th week of gestation. The disorder is completely asymptomatic and presents with painless rectal bleeding. Surgical excision of diverticulum and the surrounding ileum segment, that maybe ulcerated takes place. It is usually done by laparoscopic for open surgical procedure.
