Mucocele!!

Mucocele!!

Mucocele is a cyst of salivary glands also known as mucous cyst. It is a painless transparent, mucous filled lesion commonly found in the inner surface of lower lip. However, it can also occur on other surfaces like tongue, buccal mucosa and floor of the mouth. The condition usually lasts for several days or weeks and may rupture while eating food but the recurrence is high. A biopsy may be performed in some cases to exclude other mucocutaneous lesions. Usually no treatment is done for superficial mucocele as it often resolves on its own. However, recurring superficial mucocele or deep mucocele may be treated by following options: - Surgical removal - Cryosurgery - Marsupialization - Laser ablation
