Gangrenous foot

What you are looking at is not a prosthetic leg... that's a gangrenous foot exposed all the way down to the bone! This 23 year old female developed gangrene to her left foot secondary to peripheral artery disease (PAD), which is most commonly caused by diabetes and poor diet! At the initial visit, she refused treatment as she wanted a more holistic, rather than western, medical approach. She went to a spiritual treatment church for 4 months and came back to the clinic with the above leg. The infection continued to grow, and the bacteria ended up eating the tissue just below the knee. The condition that could have easily been cured, turned to a life threatening event. Credit: @trauma_time What are your thoughts on this case? Comment below and follow us @Medicalpedia for more!

How is it possible for someone to have this degree of infection and not die from septic shock? I am baffled! 😳 How? How?!?!?!?

She probably won't die at this point with this infection. It doesn't happen with dry gangrene, as long as she gets a timely amputation. With this degree of damage from PAD

When this happens do your nerves go into shock and you no longer feel pain or is this still very painful?

Rkb1987, yep, it's a lot of pain, but not so long, as you think. Nerves can't live without blood oxygen, and collapses fast, so you wouldn't get hurt anymore, in this leg, but only in necrosis patrt. The hip pain also, cause it's a live tissues. But, she also had diabetes, so diabetes neuropathy, which one can reduce pain too, is also used to be. Sorry, for bad English language, btw)

What was the organism isolated?

For those who are wondering how she got developed situation in this case, or how she changed into this degree of necrosis without being died by septic shock,?! Ok, I'll explain.

The case you see here is a case of peripheral artery disease which is due to Atherosclerosis or blockage in the arteries of the leg causes ischemia and lack of blood supply which developed into "DRY GANGRENE" and by time developed into coagulative necrosis which caused the tissue to die or sloughed off, and the most important thing in this case which prevented the patient from being exposed to septic shock that the gangrene is dry and didn't develop into wet gangrene, since dry gangrene is neither causative of septic shock nor life-threatening, you can also checkout my information by yourselves, I hope that was helpful, thanks.

Thanks for explaining. My comment kept getting likes, but no responses and it was quite frustrating. Hahaha!

One more important thing, it's mentioned that the patient refused the modern treatment which could've been effective and she wanted holistic treatment which played a major role in worsening her situation to this, which will only be treated unfortunately by amputation, be safe and don't be idiot about your health, small things can change into life-threatening situations so,, be careful.
