How can you tell the difference on here between epidural and subdural hematoma?

the epidural hematoma is located between the dura and skull and the subdural hematoma is located between the arachnoid and dura

I like to look at the borders. EDH has smooth borders, SDH has more bumpy borders since it is directly in contact w/ brain

Epidural bleeding occurs between the skull and dura; whereas subdural bleeding occurs between the dura and arachnoid.

EDH is often bi-convex shaped. This is because the dura mater is tightly apposed to the inside of the skull alone the cranial sutures. So a bleed on top of the dura will fill until it hits these sutures. SDH, on the other hand, forms a crescent shape along the skull. Age is also a helpful identifier because EDH is much more common in young patients, because as you age the dura becomes more adherent to the skull, so any trauma to the head of an elderly person will more likely result in SDH. Hope this helps!
