Congenital Hydrocephalus

Congenital Hydrocephalus

This is the brain of someone who is as normal as me and you, it shows Congenital Hydrocephalus: congenital disease characterized by abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain due to obstruction in the CSF rainage. This is the case of 21 years old female who was born with this malformation and got treated surgically with ventricular shunt to surpass the obstruction, whats remarkable here is that she has full cognitive function and do really good in school which shows how elastic is the brain and it can learn lost functions specially in the first years of life. follow us for more !

Does insertion of the ventricular shunt carry any risk of getting infected since it’s a foreign body.

Just wondering...is brain tissue congenitally missing or just very severely compressed?
