Pilocarpine uses- Pilocarpine is a medication used to reduce the IOP and treat dry mouth (xerostomia as in Sjogren's syndrome). Mechanism of action- ⚒ Pilocarpine is a miotic that acts on the ciliary muscle and causes it to contract. When the ciliary muscle contracts, it opens the trabecular meshwork through increased tension on the scleral spur. This action facilitates the rate that aqueous humor leaves the eye, to decrease the intraocular pressure. Side effects - 💉💊 As pilocarpine is a cholinergic, the side effects are supposed to be "leaky" i.e., sweating, nausea, runny nose, chills, flushing, polyurea, dizziness, weakness, diarrhea, and blurred vision may occur.
