Internal and lateral thoracic (or mammary) arteries

Internal and lateral thoracic (or mammary) arteries

There are internal and external mammary arteries, and internal and lateral thoracic arteries. They're the same things, but their names have changed over the years. Let's look at where these arteries are, where they run, how they get their names, and why they're often not considered as a pair. Once we've looked at this anatomy we'll be able to work out how a collateral circulatory route may form with coarctation (narrowing) of the aorta.
