Usually nerve injury which is proximal is more damaging and prominent as compared to a distal injury. But in the case of ulnar nerve injury, the ulnar claw hand (deformity) is more pronounced at the distal injury (wrist) than the proximal injury (elbow). This happens due to the innervation of Flexor digitorum profundus by ulnar nerve. Injury at wrist spares the FDP, while elbow level injury paralyses the FDP. The paralysis of FDP reduces the extent of clawing. At wrist, clawing is exaggerated due to unopposed action of the unparalyzed FDP
