Lingual nerve - nerve of the tongue

The lingual nerve is a branch of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (5th CN ), which supplies sensory innervation to the anterior 2/3 of the tongue. It also carries fibers from the facial nerve (CN VII), which carries taste information from the anterior two thirds of the tongue, via the chorda tympani.
