Open reconstruction of the urethra (urethroplasty) done in a 35 year old male who developed urethral stricture following a saddle injury! Urethra is the tube structure that carries urine from the bladder to be expelled outside. Stricture, or narrowing, results due to a trauma, infection, any kind of instrumentation or non-infectious urethritis. Urethroplasty is a useful treatment, which essentially involves the removal of the involved segment and re-attachment of the two normal ends (excision and primary anastomosis). This procedure is best suited for short strictures involving the bulbar or membranous urethra in particular. When this repair is not possible, tissue can be transferred from another site (eg. penile skin) to augment and therefore widen the narrow segment to a normal caliber.Photo by: @saddamrajab_md
