This is a truly unique test that views our body's remarkable complexity in such a simplistic way. The MRA uses magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to evaluate blood vessels and help identify abnormalities or detect aneurysms, dissections, ruptured and atherosclerotic disease of the aorta and all its branches. Unlike traditional angiography that involves placing a tube (catheter) into the body, MRA is noninvasive and requires contrast in order to visualize the blood vessels. Notice the heart along with the aorta, aortic arch, and its 3 main branches (brachiocephalic trunk, left common carotid artery, and left subclavian artery).
