Caution should be taken when fixing a humerus fracture as up to 20% of humoral shaft fractures have an associated radial nerve palsy, which makes it the most common nerve lesion complicating fractures of long bones. Current recommendations are immediate exploration of the radial nerve and surgical intervention in case of open fractures of the humeral shaft, irreducible fractures or unacceptable reduction, associated vascular injuries, radial nerve palsy after manipulation or intractable neurogenic pain.Photo credit : @overcomingtheoddsbook
